About Uprise
Uprise's mission is to give everyone in the world the ability to optimize their finances.
We're a premium tax and advisory firm for people with genuinely complex finances: business owners, real estate, stock comp, and more. We pair expert tax professionals and advisors with technology to deliver a high-touch, proactive experience that traditional firms can't, and we reach clients by embedding inside the platforms and advisory firms they already trust: partners like HoneyBook, NerdWallet, Flychain, alongside a growing roster of RIAs and wealth firms.
We're backed by top VCs (Blank Ventures, Serac Ventures, TruStage, Hustle Fund) and by founders and senior execs from Gusto, SoFi, Stripe, and Robinhood, among others.
About the role
You are the final say on our clients' returns. You review returns, make the judgment calls, and sign as paid preparer of record. You'll work alongside our Tax Advisors, who handle the day-to-day client relationship.
Our clients span a wide range of situations, from straightforward returns to high earners with stock compensation, multi-state footprints, K-1 investments, real estate, and trusts, as well as business owners in agriculture, healthcare, and consulting. The work is clients' 1040s and the 1120S and 1065 returns behind them. Some of our clients also need Schedule F for farm and ranch work or 1041s for trusts, and experience with either is a plus.
Why this role is different
- You won't be asked to bring in clients. Our clients come to us through our partners.
- Tax planning is part of the job, not just compliance, so your work runs all year instead of stopping at the filing deadline.
- We build our own software, including AI that takes the first pass at each return and its work papers. You'll help decide what we build, test it on real returns, and tell us where it gets things wrong.
- We're a small team growing fast. Together with the rest of the team, you'll help define how our reviews, standards, and workflow run as we grow.
- The role includes equity, so you would own part of the company you're helping to build.
- The role is remote anywhere in the U.S.
What you'll do
- Review first-pass individual and business returns, including 1040, 1120S, and 1065, and sign them as paid preparer of record.
- Make the tax judgment calls on complex situations, and document how you made them so the team learns from each one.
- Work with our Tax Advisors on tax planning for clients through the year.
- Give our preparers clear, specific feedback and help mentor junior staff.
- Answer technical questions from our Tax Advisors so clients get a correct answer and a next step.
- Keep our systems current so the team can see where every return stands.
- Tell us what's slowing you down so we can fix the workflow and the tooling.
If most of this fits you and the work sounds like your kind of work, we'd like to hear from you!
When you apply, include a short note on when you could start and what made you want to apply.

Requirements
- You hold an active CPA license or EA credential.
- You have roughly 4 to 6 years of tax compliance experience at a firm serving business owners and high earners.
- You have worked across several of these: multi-state returns, K-1 investments, RSUs and stock options, S corp and partnership pass-through entities, and real estate.
- Farm and ranch returns, trust and estate returns, or foreign reporting are each a plus.
- You have reviewed other preparers' work, or you are ready to.
- You're comfortable working remotely across tax software, client portals, and secure file sharing. Drake experience is a plus.
- You want to build something new with a small team, and you care about the clients behind the returns.
- You're based in the U.S.
